Among the first through that new door for the coming season were-once again-Yorkin and Lear. This time they have a spin-off from Family called Maude, and already it ranks as one of the fall's top prospects. Maude is Edith Bunker's cousin who lives somewhere in upstate New York. As played by the formidable (5 ft. 9 in.), husky-contral-toed Beatrice Arthur, she may do for liberal suburban matrons what Archie has done for urban hardhats...
...first, the $1.50 paperback looks like another inspirational spin-off of the Jesus Revolution. Bearing the title The Life Story of Jesus, its slick cover shows a pastel Jesus in red-polka-dot robes (a poster version is available for another $1.50). But who is the author, Levi Alphaeus? Domestically, MITRE uses this systems-engineering sophistication to coordinate police communications. However, the military insist that the majority of its work be military-oriented because MITRE provides "a degree of expertise unobtainable elsewhere in the country...
...five grade schools and junior highs, existing buildings are divided into traditional and more venturesome learning groups from which parents can choose, and one freewheeling elementary school spin-off meets in a rented mansion. All the groups are integrated, although some schools more than others stress subjects especially relevant to blacks and Chicanos. At the high school level there are still more distinct educational choices...
