...playing of the Freshmen was very spiritless, their fielding was inaccurate and with a few exceptions the batting was weak. Hall pitched effectively, but lacked support. Brookline High School, after being seven runs behind, tied the score in the eighth inning. In the last half of the eighth, however, the Freshmen scored four runs on two bases on balls, and hits by Evans and Sibley...

...Dartmouth's erratic fielding, as the nine hits made were scattered, and the bunting weak. Clarkson, Carr, and Matthews did the best hitting. Coburn showed improvement in control, but exhibited lack of practice in fielding, making three of Harvard's six errors. The rest of the fielding was spiritless...

...game was, perhaps, the most discouraging played this year, for in addition to the team's customary weakness in batting, several very costly and inexcusable fielding errors were made. The base-running, too, was deplorably spiritless, three men, being caught between bases. Clarkson seemed to lack a little of his usual steadiness in the box, for, although he succeeded in striking out seven men, he allowed four bases on balls, and hit two men. Behind the bat, Kernan allowed three passed balls, one of which let in the tying runs in the ninth inning...

In this work the defense showed more than usual strength and succeeded in stopping very consistently the rather crude attack of the opposing forwards. The practice throughout was characterized by loose individual work, although Litchfield showed marked improvement at goal, and Carr proved an almost sure check to the shooting of his opponents...

...call to mind a poorer practice than that of the University football team yesterday would be a most difficult task. Not since the start of the season has a more spiritless or unsatisfactory exhibition occurred; and in view of the close proximity of an important contest, the showing was certainly disquieting. The whole team was remarkably slow, there was practically no interference, and but for the extreme weakness of the second eleven, whose frequent fumbles thwarted any attempts at effectual offensive work on their part, defeat would have been hard to avert. As it was, in a line-up which...
