...before, in trials similar to the one that will unfold in Louisiana, juries have awarded plaintiffs millions of dollars. Why? Because scientists can never say anything is absolutely true or false. Who knows what future research may uncover? "That's where we stumble," admits John Musser, a Dow Chemical spokesman...
...State Department's bureau of diplomatic security has turned to a curious spokesman in its attempt to stop worldwide terrorism. Besides placing macabre, slasher-movie-style newspaper ads in the International Herald Tribune offering up to $2 million for information about assaults on American citizens abroad, the State Department has enlisted none other than bad-boy actor CHARLIE SHEEN to lend encouragement in a series of public-service ads at its www.heroes.net Website. Executives of Cablevision were likewise searching for good workers when they hooked up with a community group called the South Bronx Overall Development Corporation. Tempelsman was in Angola last week, conferrring with U.S. Ambassador DONALD STEINBERG and still trying to clinch a deal...
...potential to generate revenue may have only just begun to be tapped. The market's elasticity will be tested by the new 330-seat Elvis Presley's Memphis, a theme restaurant and nightclub that opened last week in Memphis (opening act: folksinger Jewel, "the kind of entertainer," an EPE spokesman maintained, "Elvis would have selected were he alive today"). The company hopes that similar clubs, all serving the deep-fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches Elvis adored (as well as more healthful fare), will follow in Orlando, Fla., and New York City--not to mention an entire Elvis mini-resort...
