Saturday last was the first day which the club has devoted to rifle practice. No announcement was made of any matches, but a number of members were attracted to Walnut Hill by the pleasant weather, and some excellent sport was had. This being the first shooting of the year on the part of many, the scores ran somewhat lower than will be the case later. The day, though pleasant, was not particularly favorable for putting up high scores, as the wind was strong, and, at times, inclined to be fish-taily. The men shot first for individual practice; then...
...There is no moral objection, because we often expose those we love to some pain that they may gain from the results obtained. Why should animals so much duller be spared? We use animals for all other purposes, for food and clothing, and even for enjoyment and sport. The physiologist is certainly not so cruel as the sportsman. He takes every precaution to kill his victim with the least pain. Indeed, so painless are his methods that the death of an animal so killed is much pleasanter than that of the animal exposed to the vicissitudes of nature...

This is a large proportion to come from one club and throws credit upon the work, which Harvard has done in introducing this sport among students. Unfortunately the faculty has just told the undergraduates chosen that they could not go unless they would consent to be dropped a year in their college work. This they have thought it best not to do, and, therefore, Nichols will be Harvard's sole representative on the team...

This makes it necessary to have the grounds much larger than if they could be used in rotation by the students. Should Harvard expect to find sufficient room to exercise her hundreds of undergraduates in on fields no larger than are owned by many colleges less than half her size? More grounds must be bought if Harvard is to maintain her general interest in athletics. Moreover, this land should be determined on and bought at once, as the price...
...white). Mandell and Field are well-known vaulters, but Frothingham is new in the art. The bar was started at five feet six inches, which seemed unnecessarily low. The vaulting was not up to what it was been in some years, but the man who excelled in that sport graduated with '83. Frothingham was the first to fail, at 8 feet 7 1-2 inches. At 9 feet both the other contestants failed. The result is a tie between Mandell and Field...
