...poachers can sell their prey for about $6 per foot, but they do not get them without a struggle. Poaching must be done at night-partly to avoid agents and partly to catch the slumbering alligators. The poacher blinds the animal with a spotlight, then approaches in his boat and fires a "brain shot" between the eyes with a .22-cal. rifle. Back at the Loeb, the musical menu also lists performances by the Collegium Musicum, the Harvard University Band, and Professor Leon Kirchner's Performance Seminar. The seminar performances are being organized by Currier House music tutor Jay Gottlieb. He sees the Festival as "focusing the spotlight on the arts here."
