...place where Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton filmed Graham Greene's novel, The Comedians, Dahomey's chief claim to notoriety is its penchant for coups d'état. Since 1963, the tiny West African state (pop. 2,500,000 in an area of 44,290 sq. mi.) has experienced four coups, all bloodless. Last week Dahomey suffered its fifth coup in six years, but this time the takeover was not bloodless. From the looks of Little Bay, one thing was clear. Christo was there. The craggy Australian inlet nine miles from downtown Sydney lay beneath 1,000,000 sq. ft. of clingy, opaque, icky, sticky polypropylene plastic, looking like some improbable flotsam that had drifted in on a high tide, the last relic of a disposal civilization. The following comparative figures for the same house were compiled by Milwaukee's American Appraisal Co. In most of the high-cost cities, builders use union labor; in nearly all the low-cost cities, they use nonunion labor...

...more than two years, Anthony Grey's world was a 12-ft.-sq. whitewashed room in Peking. He lived in a void: no one spoke to him and, except for three brief calls by British diplomats, no one was permitted to visit him. Outside the open door of his room stood an armed guard, and others ringed the walled compound of the house. Last week, after 26 months of mind-numbing confinement, the Chinese government suddenly released Grey, a 30-year-old correspondent for Britain's Reuters wire service...
