Your article on Michael Jordan's comeback mentioned his pending divorce from his wife Juanita [SPORT, Jan. 21]. You included a bird's-eye photographic view of their sprawling 25,000-sq.-ft. home. Juanita could easily let Michael live in some obscure, out-of-the-way 10,000-sq.-ft. corner of the complex, and would never even notice he was around. Still, that might not be fair, as she would be left to make ends meet with just a few hundred million dollars. What is the world coming to! IVAN PAGANACCI Plantation...
...tell you. The 5,000 Philippine troops on Basilan are looking for the last 80 or so heavily armed members of the Muslim rebel gang known as Abu Sayyaf (meaning "Bearer of the Sword"), who are on the run with three hostages in tow somewhere inside a 30-sq.-mi. patch. Stalking the rebels in jungle so dense that no light shines through the canopy of foliage, along jagged ridges often shrouded in fog, is like fighting in a dark closet with sunglasses on. The enemy are masters of the hit-and-run ambush, and might be lurking behind every...
...Juanita had filed for divorce in Lake County (Ill.) Circuit Court in Waukegan, citing "irreconcilable differences" in seeking to end their 12-year marriage. She wants sole custody of their three children and some part of Jordan's estimated $400 million net worth, plus the couple's 25,000-sq.-ft. compound in Highland Park, hoop court included. Jordan's career choice to play in Washington and live away from home may have been the breaking point for Juanita...
...world's biggest reptile is a major draw for visitors to Kakadu, Australia's largest?and most famous?national park. But there are other, equally compelling reasons to visit the 20,000-sq-km preserve. Declared a World Heritage area for its outstanding cultural and ecological offerings, Kakadu includes one of the finest and most extensive collections of rock art and embraces some spectacular scenery, from a rugged 500-km-long sandstone escarpment to extensive woodlands and wetlands. It is also on Asia's doorstep: its gateway city, Darwin, is closer to Jakarta and Singapore than to the nation...
After my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I saw a chamber of about 8 sq. ft., high enough for a tall man to stand. The floor was dirt and rubble, but there were signs of habitation. I saw two empty white boxes decorated with palm trees and the words "Sherjah Dates." Scattered on the floor were a few green metal boxes of ammunition with Russian writing on them. Another cave next to it was about the same size and filled with ammunition--mostly rocket-propelled grenades and bullets for Kalashnikovs...
