...those are not the only reasons: In 1982, the governing body of college football divided up Division I schools into I-A and I-AA groups. I-A schools have large stadium capacity and large attendance; I-AA schools have small stadium capacities or small attendance numbers. While schools like Harvard and Yale both had stadiums capable of holding over tens of thousands of spectators, attendance at their games was low enough to merit a I-AA classification. Yes, thousands will show up for The Game on Saturday, but the rest of the season, attendances have been dismal--for Harvard...
