...Sunday, thousands of Mugabe supporters wielding clubs and pipes occupied a stadium in Harare where the M.D.C. was planning to hold its biggest rally of the campaign. Abandoning the rally and calling the press conference to announce he was pulling out, Tsvangirai appealed to the United Nations, African Union and the Southern African Development Community, a regional authority, to "intervene and stop the genocide." Intervention, though, is considered extremely unlikely...

...Louis lives. Known as the "Mad Hungarian" for his antics on the mound, Hrabosky was a star relief pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals back when the Busch family owned the storied ball club. (The two-year-old downtown ballpark is still known as Busch Stadium, though Busch sold the club in 1995.) Vienna had already gotten a whiff of excitement the night before when the city's large Turkish contingent took to the streets following Turkey's miracle 3-2 win over the Czech Republic. Anything seemed possible against the favored Germans...

Following a 1.77-meter clearance on her first attempt in Wednesday’s NCAA Championship high jump preliminaries, junior Becky Christensen seized one of 16 coveted spots to compete in the finals for the event on Friday. At Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, the Celina, Tex. native and four-time NCAA high jump finalist finished in a three-way tie for 12th. Christensen made easy work of the opening height of 1.74, clearing it on her first attempt. It took her two attempts at the 1.77 mark, but then faced the 1.80-meter bar. Despite three solid attempts...
