NONE of Prascak's productions have been marvels of polish--their appeal has had to do mostly with manic humor and risk-taking. In Orphee, the small stage in the Kronauer Space not only limits the action, it also limits the actors. On opening night, at least, the players showed some awkwardness maneuvering around the table and chairs. It didn't help the smooth flow of the show that guardian angel Carleton, due to unfortunate (and bizarre) circumstances, had to hop about in a cast. The handicap did, however, contribute to the dramatic tension--will...
...John Kennedy were generally portrayed as Saviors. Johnson and Nixon were cartooned as Satans, and Ford and Carter as Samsons -- weak Presidents shorn of their strength. Reagan seems to invite the thought that he has found a new model, the Salesman, in the last act, standing on a stage about to go dark...
...rehearsal room is a maze of noisy motion: a woman is screaming at her stage husband, "I'm sick of your drinking -- get out of the house!"; a small unshaven man cowers childlike as his "mother" delivers an obscene tongue- lashing; a man in a red-check robe staggers drunkenly as his belt whips with violent slaps against a board, while his "son" whimpers in pain; a young man sits huddled on the floor, repeating over and over, "Why doesn't anyone love me?" The air quivers with tension as the parts of the play come together and roles...

The final split came after Kim Dae Jung rejected the younger Kim's proposal to have the Reunification Democrats pick a single candidate. In an eleventh-hour appeal, Kim Young Sam then sent an aide to urge the more volatile Kim Dae Jung to remain inside the party. When that plea also failed, Kim Young Sam declared that he viewed the elder Kim's defection with "extreme regret." Taking 27 of the party's 70 National Assembly members...
...nervousness: Albert Gore mangled the name of President James Polk, and Bruce Babbitt bobbed and weaved in his chair like a young Muhammad Ali. Last week it was the Republicans' turn to face William Buckley's Firing Line. From the moment the G.O.P. six-pack strode onto the Houston stage, all visual cues suggested that they were indeed different from their Democratic counterparts. They seemed reassuringly familiar, more experienced, older and collectively radiated -- to borrow one of Buckley's Latinisms -- gravitas...
