...François Truffaut is deceptively sweet-like a fondant filled with vitriol. The gorgeous kid of the title is Camille Bliss (BernadetteLafont), another of the coyly annihilating heroines who have haunted Truffaut's work since the incomparable Jules and Jim (1961). These women tease men, taunt them, stalk them, until, as in The Mississippi Mermaid (1969), and as here, the men are so enmeshed in their own obsession that they become grateful, impassioned prisoners...
Racial tensions are not at the flare point of the mid-1960s, yet friction is rarely far from the surface, particularly in Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland and Newark. Crimes against property have been leveling, but violent crimes against people continue to stalk the urban areas. Many cities are doing better financially than in recent years, but the nation's five biggest-New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Detroit -are either in the red or otherwise financially troubled...
...from Cleveland who puts up at this hotel, which is managed by her dotty aunt Martha (Lucille Benson). In 58 days of combat, Tiger Herbert won another Silver and three more Bronze Stars...
Another element of the Gallos' success is technology. Their staff of 25 graduate oenologists is the nation's largest. Automation has cut production costs to the stalk: Gallo Hearty Burgundy, for instance, is made from more expensive grapes than a number of comparable competing Burgundies, but mass production helps keep the price about the same. The Gallos have the industry's first winery-owned bottlemaking plant, producing up to 1,500,000 bottles a day-all tinted in shades of green created by Gallo researchers to screen harmful ultraviolet rays. Though the Gallos' oenologists have developed...
