Three subsequent stars - the Packers' Dorsey Levens, who followed Sanders; Tennessee Titans RB Eddie George, in 2000; and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper - saw stalwart careers wither in the years immediately following their cover appearances. Other stars, including Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb (who graced the cover in 2005) and Seattle Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander (2006), have had their seasons derailed by injury. But the strongest argument for a cover jinx comes in the prison-garbed form of Michael Vick. When Vick appeared on the cover of Madden 2004, he was heralded as the future of the game, a rocket...

...Having been a victim myself, through Madoff's West Coast feeder stalwart Chais, I know firsthand all about the high fees: 25% of income earned. Chais isn't talking, but that adds up to real money, enough to create, in his case, a foundation, the Chais Family Foundation, purportedly worth $175 million before Madoff's arrest on Dec. 11, 2008. Everything was going according to plan. In a tough if not ugly matchup against Brown, the Harvard men’s basketball team was up six, 59-53, with just under two minutes to play.A missed rebound and resultant three made it 59-56, but with senior stalwart Drew Housman—a career 81 percent free-throw shooter—going to the line for a one-and-one with 1:08 to play, the Crimson seemed to have little reason to worry. But after a missed first shot and a Bears layup on the other...

...region, the status and politics of Northern Ireland have always been capable of dividing neighbors and friends, much less politicians. "Edward Kennedy may never have said outwardly he supported the [Irish Republican terror group] IRA, but he certainly ...was no friend of the U.K.," said Lord Tebbitt, a stalwart of Margaret Thatcher's government, whose wife was crippled by an IRA bomb attack in 1984. "This honor is wholly inappropriate on the basis of the sleaze attached to [Kennedy] after the crash at Chappaquiddick, let alone his support for nationalism in Northern Ireland...
