Reincarnation on Central Park West? It sounds like material left over from an old Nichols and May routine. An implacably amorous computer? It sounds as if the Disney organization decided to adapt an idea Stanley Kubrick had discarded as unworthy of him. Yet allegedly responsible adults, accountable to the stockholders of major motion picture concerns, are asking us to consider the former a realistic possibility, the latter a cautionary tale...
...said President Jimmy Carter to TIME Correspondent Stanley Cloud during Cloud's memorable and exclusive day at the White House, in which he talked to and observed the President from dawn into the late evening (TIME, April 18). Carter was talking about a session with Cabinet members and advisers to hammer out the energy plan that the President will present to the nation this week. But then a Socialist Workers Party lawsuit produced new, damning evidence of repeated "black bag jobs," or illegal break-ins, by FBI agents in several cities. Pottinger was permitted to assemble a task force of Justice Department lawyers and FBI agents to probe bureau excesses, starting...
...center's supporters concede that it is too early to call the project a success. Says Ford Financial Expert Stanley Seneker: "We are looking ahead to something like four or five years to make this a reasonable business proposition." Ren Cen, however, was intended not to enrich its backers but to revitalize the city. Here, too, judgment of its effectiveness is premature, but there are already a few stirrings of rebirth downtown. A new riverfront plaza is under construction near by; it boasts an obelisk and a fountain by the noted sculptor Isamu Noguchi. Part of Woodward Avenue will...
