...large amount than usual or serious verse--the kind of verse which, because it calls for the application of greater powers than the usual poems of lighter verse, more often bears the stamp of maturity and permanence. The verse in the issue, "The River Wall" and "To the Evening Star," avoids the common fault of mistaking obscurity for suggestiveness, and is moreover, exceptional for its musical fluency, delicacy of thought and happiness in choice of rhyme. The editorials are timely and pointed, but beside these, the prose in the issue merits little praise...

...illustrious example of "Honor Men." Mr. Long then referred to the characters of Charles Russell Lowell '54 and Roger Wolcott '70. "Look up to and associate with the star to which you hitch your wagon. These men were worthy of their deturs; be worthy of yours. Comparison of the three negatives obtained at different times in the months of July and September shows the curious fact that the spectrum of lightning is not always the same. The spectrum of the flash closely resembles that of the new star, the Nova Persei. The apparatus was the same as is used in obtaining photographs of the spectra of stars and the success of the experiment, it is expected, will open a new field for spectroscopic work...

Preparations are being made at the Observatory for photographing the nebula of the Nova Persei. Ever since the star was discovered last February it has been growing fainter, and it is feared that if photographs are not obtained soon no further chance will be offered. Every night telescopic photographs will be taken and the time of exposure will be lengthened, as it is thought that under-exposure may account for recent failures to obtain photographs of the nebula. It is intended also to determine by the parallax method the distance and motion of the star...
