Because Nazi suspects had been found in high Heimwehr posts, it seemed likely for a few days that youthful Prince von Starhemberg would be shelved as commander of the Heimwehr in favor of his far more effective subordinate, Vice Chancellor Emil Fey. Prince von Starhemberg saved his job and proved his loyalty to the Dollfuss regime with a blast to his followers attacking Hitlerism...

Totally unready to die, Chancellor Dollfuss was last week busily stuffing up the chinks in his ''Patriotic Front" coalition against Naziism. Already head of the army, police and gendarmerie, he took over the headship of Prince Ernst Rüdiger von Starhemberg's "White Fascist" Heimwehr. One part, under former Governor Anton Rintelen of Styria, is so frankly pro-Nazi that the Governor was hastily made Ambassador to Italy a few weeks ago. The rest are divided in allegiance between Prince von Starhemberg (founder but now only nominally leader of the entire Heimwehr) and Major Fey, commander of the Vienna district. The growing power of Major Fey is one reason for Prince von Starhemberg's ominous muttering against the Dollfuss Government in recent weeks. The entire Cabinet shift was a gamble on whether...
