...prettiest plays in sport is soccer's "corner kick"-a free kick booted from the corner of the field toward the players of both teams, who try to kick or butt the ball into the net or down the field. In The Bronx's Starlight Park this week, corner kicks and other fancy head-and-footwork were executed with rare artistry. The performers were the two foremost big-league outfits in the U.S.: the Brooklyn Hispanos and Pittsburgh's Morgan Strassers, facing each other in soccer's equivalent of the baseball World's Series...

In the Schmidt camera, however, the light rays pass through a concave-convex lens which aims them at the mirror at such angles that they are reflected upon the plate in sharp focus (see diagram). Photographs of distant, dim nebulae formerly required exposures of 50 hours-five hours a night...

Groups gathered at street corners to reprimand motorists who drove with lights. In the quiet of almost absolute night, this city of klieg lights and neon signs found a new beauty in starlight...
...forget in a hurry. The central attraction will be Gene Krupa's band, a "relaxed and sincere" outfit, according to experts. Rumor has it that he will stick to mellow and glidable music. Book-sick men will also be lured by plenty of food and drinks plus the usual starlight activities. Thus while ignorant armies clash by night, the Spread stands out as the last chance in College to forget that coming year in khaki...
