...borrow a timely euphemism, athletes "transgress" so often that when it comes time to calculate the damage, the candor of the confession usually trumps the severity of the sin. Tiger Woods shanked his apology, waiting several excruciating days to state that he had "let his family down" and was "far short of perfect." Alleged mistresses are popping up to dish details of late-night trysts, fans are aghast and the pitchfork-wielding pundits are bloodying their former hero with barely concealed glee. But instead of demonizing a star who was worshipped by millions, it's worth pausing to consider...
Hanes was relatively new to Montana, having moved to Billings from Iowa in 1999 with her then husband, Dr. Paul Bennett. Bennett had been state medical examiner and she was an assistant county prosecutor in Polk County, Iowa. But a legal controversy pursued him into Montana. His testimony had help lead to the imprisonment of a young Iowa couple accused of shaking their baby to death in 1997. The couple was later freed after Bennett's autopsy report and his methods were discredited by peer-reviewing pathologists. The prosecution then moved for dismissal of charges. ...Bennett is now an associate Montana State medical examiner, who performs autopsies and testifies often in criminal cases. He and Hanes divorced in December 2008 for undisclosed reasons. In December 2008, she worked briefly...

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton played a key role in ensuring a last-minute deal in August between Turkey and Armenia aimed at normalizing diplomatic relations and eventually opening their long-closed border. That agreement is one of the U.S. Administration's chief foreign policy successes to date. Obama, who shied away from a campaign pledge to recognize the 1915 mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman soldiers as genocide in favor of supporting a bilateral peace process, will press Erdogan...
...Today, with the peace process on the brink of collapse, East Jerusalem is becoming the central political battleground pitting Israel against both the Palestinians and Western governments hoping to salvage a two-state solution. That much is visible at the City of David. Although billboards in the area portray white gleaming Jewish faces in ancient and modern times, the City of David sits in the center of a predominantly Arab neighborhood, Silwan. Many people originally worked on the site as laborers, but the 40,000 Arab residents of Silwan have grown to resent the City of David...
