Woodrow Wilson was born in Staunton, Virginia, on December 28, 1856. He graduated from Princeton in the class of 1879, studied law at the University of Virginia during the next two years and then for two years practised law in Atlanta. He received the degree of Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University in 1886; his doctor's thesis on "Congressional Government" has often been reprinted. He was Associate Professor of History and Political Economy at Bryn Mawr College from 1885 to 1888 and at Wesleyan University from 1888 to 1890.
