House Culture: Sake bomb. Forget Stein Clubs: happy hours are pretty legit at Dunster. The themes may range from the sophisticated (specific wine and cheese pairings) to the bizarrely delightful ("1-2-3-sake bomb!!"), but one theme has been consistent this year: eventual devolution into sloppy dancing. As for non-alcohol-based modes of community-building, Dunster ensures those warm, fuzzy feelings during the seasons, particularly around Christmas time when a giant evergreen graces a corner of the dining hall and residents write thank you cards to each other and hugs abound. House Masters: Tom and Verena Conley are, for lack of a better term, baller. Though no longer for credit, Tom still offers his immensely popular Wine Seminar every spring. He’s also a regular staple of Stein Clubs, where his conversation vacillates between sophisticated chatter about fine wine and French films to impassioned rants on his fierce, if somewhat contradictory allegiances to the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants. Verena plays his quieter counterpart, welcoming freshmen like sheep into the fold and secretly accumulating information about everyone in the house so she can strike up conversation...
...about the Fete, and Eliot's strict resident + one policy sends the House List into a frenzy looking for extra tickets every April. That said, it quite doesn't live up to the hype, though perhaps no House formal could. Throughout the year, Eliot takes its weekly Stein Clubs almost as seriously as its Boat Club, whose members, including Lino, flood the dining hall every morning after spring break. You might think a House blog would be a selling point, but the recently launched El-Word is heavily dominated by Ho-Co and its content can be insular...
