...pardon case was strengthened by an extraordinary lobbying effort. For starters, there was Denise Rich, the Grammy-nominated songwriter and Democratic diva who throws some of the most happening fund-raisers in New York City and Aspen, Colo., frequented by the likes of Martha Stewart and Michael Jackson. Despite their less-than- amicable divorce a few years ago - Marc left her for a younger blond - Denise recently wrote a supporting letter at the request of Marc's New York attorney, Robert Fink. The daughter of Holocaust survivors, Denise has been one of the Clintons' most loyal supporters, giving...

After the inhabitants of the mini-booths come the convention's real bottom-feeders. Wandering the halls alongside the buyers (and the dogged press hounds) are hustlers who can't afford any real estate but who are nonetheless determined to pitch their wares. Martha Stewart's maddeningly precise and time-consuming recipe almost drove me to the pop-open cans, while AllRecipes' obtuse instructions and cake-mix ingredients struck me as suspect. I liked Epicurious' tip for using a sandwich bag with a hole in the bottom corner to drizzle on glaze like a pro, and found cooking.com's guidelines to be the most straightforward...
