Usage:

Thalidomide, for instance, was extensively tested, using more than 30,000 animals in a period of three years. The results allowed the drug to be considered safe for humans, yet it was found to cause grave deformities in the babies whose mothers took the drug during pregnancy. Diethyl Stilbesterol (DES) also was tested on animals but has been found to cause vaginal and testicular cancer in the offspring of pregnant women.
