...living by the sword. Vito's father, we learn in the beginning of this film, was an honest man killed by a Sicilian don for refusing to be intimidated, twenty years later. Vito returns to draw an ugly line down the old man's belly with a stiletto. He has succumbed to the revenge ethic. The final five minutes of the film show three of Michael's closest associates dying by his command--his brother, his greatest rival partner and his oldest family retainer. But Vito's revenge was satisfying and to an extent just: Michael's leaves him empty...
There is always a new slant in women's shoes. Sky-high stiletto heels and the tiptoe look gave way to relatively level, short-heeled pumps, walking shoes and flats. Heels reared up once again with the platform look, which is still riding high. But now the heel has actually dropped below the toes in a new kind of footwear: the odd-looking clodhoppers known to a growing band of sole sisters (and brothers) as Earth Shoes...

Next day in West Germany, a spokesman said that Lufthansa has no intention of picking up its three Concorde options unless the plane is drastically redesigned. It is likely that Continental Airlines will also let its three places in the Concorde production line lapse next month, as will American with its six reservations...
...lurid, lacerating story intimidates the cast, with the exception of Colleen Dewhurst as Christine. She has the sensual passion and bitter force of the Greek original. As Lavinia, Pamela Payton-Wright lacks the stiletto malice of Greek vengeance but remains a young actress to watch carefully. With this revival, Director Theodore Mann and his partner Paul Libin consecrate a handsome new mid-Manhattan play house, the Circle in the Square-Joseph E. Levine Theater. They merit an A+ for enterprise and a question mark for good judgment...
