Tough men go dippy in her presence. They look beyond the blondness and see a questing intelligence, a wit that can sting or caress and, in the corners of her smile, a hint that with the right guy, she wouldn't mind messing around a bit. So, in Twister, a meteorologist (Bill Paxton) runs away with her, ditching his fiance to wildcat after tornadoes. On Mad About You, her TV husband (Paul Reiser) can't stop rhapsodizing. "I'm admiring a beautiful girl who married me for some reason," he says, and "all I know is that I want...
...fake ID's and making their arrests based on that offense alone, the cops allow the illegal purchase of alcohol to take place so that they can tack on further charges. This seems to serve no purpose other than increasing the severity of the punishment that victims of the sting receive...
...Cops in Shops" program is arbitrary. Currently, 32 Cambridge liquor stores participate in the program. The Cambridge License Commission uses a lottery system to select sting targets on a given evening. Those unlucky individuals who are caught by the program face the harshest of consequences, but it is their poor luck alone that accounts for their special fate. The underhanded "Cops in Shops" program devotes too much effort toward putting predominantly decent kids in jail for trying to buy booze. The recent implementation of the "Cops in Shops" program at various liquor stores in Cambridge disappoints and angers us greatly...
Following Sting's playful opener, the Smashing Pumpkins perform the most surprising track on the album, their original "Christmastime." Lead singer Billy Corgan has never seemed the sensitive type; on Lollapalooza 1995, the Smashing Pumpkins symbolized teenage angst and depression. On "Christmastime," however, Corgan sings gently and tenderly about the joy found on the faces of children at Christmas. Written from a father's viewpoint, Corgan carols of how "Christmastime has come/bringing toys for everyone/Christmas time has come...for you." Sleigh bells, whistles and peaceful piano sounds define the wholly unoriginal music which matches the lackluster lyrics. Nevertheless, the Pumpkins...
