...service on a 0-to-30 scale, note the average price of a meal (including one drink and a tip) and offer a succinct judgment on the restaurant. The results, compiled by computer, are boiled down by Zagat and a team of editors into capsule ratings that can sting as well as sing. In the current New York guide, for example, Elaine's, a snobby literary and show-biz hangout, gets bottom-drawer ratings of 9 in all three categories and such scathing reviewer comments as "I'd rather starve" and "check your self-esteem at the door...
Recently, few have felt the sting of RICO as much as the denizens of Wall Street. Federal prosecutors have used the law to go after big names like former junk-bond maestro Michael Milken, who is expected to be tried early next year on charges involving securities fraud. Two weeks ago, several executives of Princeton/Newport Partners were convicted for their roles in illegal stock-trading schemes. The Merc's chief, Leo Melamed, pledged "to put the fear...

Along with the pricey jet engines, the sting netted a "warehouseful" of items, from canteens to jet instrumentation. Stroud, his wife Kimberly and Roth were charged with stealing the engines. They pleaded not guilty. Twelve others have also been indicted on related charges. "Many of the participants are military policemen, and we find that especially disturbing," commented...

"We have all realized we're on the front lines," says British rock star Sting, who is campaigning worldwide to save the Brazilian rain forest. "We have access to information and can transmit it through the media...
