Police's lead singer and premier song writer, who is called Sting, explains: "Jung believed there was a large pattern to life, that it wasn't just chaos. Our song Synchronicity II is about two parallel events that aren't connected logically or causally, but symbolically." That's a tall order for a five-minute four-second tune, but Sting is a fleet writer and his song can carry the weight. Drummer Stewart Copeland has a slightly different, more bemused explanation. There is one point, anyway, on which all three members of the group agree. Guitarist Andy Summers: "Sting is the most consummate writer of pop songs in the group, so we wind up doing more of his songs than anybody else's." ...intriguing combination of talents. To film Frank Herbert's 1965 science fiction bestseller Dune, Producer Dino De Laurentiis, 63, has attracted the likes of Director David Lynch (The Elephant Man), Special Effects Wizard John Dykstra (Star Wars) and a cast that includes Sting, 31, the leader and vocalist of rock's hottest group, the Police. In the established tradition of such rockers turned actors as Mick Jagger and Deborah Harry, Sting brings to Dune his own past credits, from Quadrophenia and Brimstone and Treacle. Not to mention an ability to whip himself up into a manic frenzy...

...would steal its secrets. It cooperated with the FBI last year in a sting operation that nabbed employees of Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric, two Japanese competitors, for trying to buy confidential IBM information. IBM then brought a separate civil suit against Hitachi, which pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges last February and was fined $10,000. The criminal case against Mitsubishi is still pending...
