Controversy. The U. S. suggestion to ban gas as a war weapon aroused a storm, reminiscent of the recent Opium Conference (TIME, Dec. 1, 8, Feb. 2, Mar. 2). The friendly enemies of the U. S. were not slow to say: "At it again," thereby meaning that the U. S. was trying to "clean up" the whole arms trading situation instead of approaching the problem step by step. Zander the Great. A lovely nurse girl trying to find among Arizona badmen the father of her tiny ward is the kernel of this tale. It is fed forth with all the usual garnishings of hard riding, sheriffs and a sand storm. Early pictures of the nurse girl struggling to escape from an orphanage had little bearing on the general scheme but were nevertheless the most interesting. The other is a still more extraordinary play by his friend, the novelist John Roderigo Dos Passos, a play that has not yet been acted or published, called "The Moon is a Gong". This is to be presented for the first time during the coming...
Immediately a storm of protest arose from all quarters. Prominent alumni urged the University to acquire the property to prevent the district from being marred. Publication by the CRIMSON of the University's plans for future expansion showed that such a building would bring to nought the scheme for widening Holyoke Street into an avenue connecting the Yard with the "New Yard" of which the Freshman Dormitories are the nucleus...
