Earlier on the album, Belle and Sebastian nod to the Smiths. While one of the tracks on Arab Strap is explicitly about the record label representative who signed Johnny Marr from the Smiths, on "Electronic Renaissance" the chorus is a revisited version of the Smith's "Panic." Gently mocking many of the current pop bands who have incorporated sophisticated remixing and other mixology, Murdoch sings, "Play a game with your electronics, take a step to the discotheque...Hand in hand with the Electronic Renaissance is the way to go, you're learning, soon you will do the things you wanted...

After a few trial runs through the halls of the Time & Life Building (and a few raised eyebrows), I rolled out onto the street with my friend Maryanne and a pair of Rollerblade's new Nature skates. A fancy version of the metal strap-ons I wore as a kid, the $190 Natures are in fact hiking boots that clip onto a plastic frame with wheels. Urban Outfitters appears to be at the forefront of the "bra-strap headband" movement. Theirs are available at the "accessories" shelf in the women's section and come in two styles. First is the traditional bra strap sewn together at the ends, and the second consists of two smaller multicolored straps that link in the back. The visual effect is difficult to describe-think flower child meets urban grunge. The headbands cost $8, and the woman working in the store, who was not wearing one, said they seemed to be selling very quickly...
