...received an angry letter from my aunt, la Comtesse de Gabriac, saying that the Paris Herald had also reported me to be a jailbird. Simultaneously came various letters from California kidding me unmercifully about the same story carried by papers out there. The clipping from TIME was the fatal straw, and realizing that TIME will reach as nation-wide a public as all these other papers combined, I rely upon your courtesy to correct this mistake, and relieve Boston from calumny...

Men wise in the intricacies of hat-making, hat-selling (TIME, May 27) gave learned speeches. Cinemactor Menjou, elegantly representing the hatted classes, declared that no properly dressed man would think of owning less than a dozen hats. He himself, epitome of grooming, owned 22, had brought them...

...Calvin Coolidge and Al Jolson. John D. Rockefeller Sr. wears a 7½ John D. Rockefeller Jr. a 7⅜. The largest hat ever made was a special order from a Ringling Brothers Giant, who weighed 480 pounds and took an 8⅞. There is not much variation in straw hat styles, straws of the present (delayed) season tending toward a narrowed brim and a slightly bell-shaped crown...
