...MAIN STRENGTH of Pesetsky's novel lies in the character of the narrator-protagonist herself. Never whining, rarely dogmatic, she makes everything in her quirky tale seem perfectly probable, so internalized is the logic. At times, however, the feminist themes do turn reductonist.
