In the end a gravel path must be put down in all such places,--a procedure which if allowed to go much further will result in a network of pathways so confused as to take away entirely the effect of a stretch of green lawn. Although the track was in good condition a strong south wind which blew up the stretch interfered with fast performances on the track. Derby, who for several weeks has been rowing in a single shell, was tried at 4. Richardson was changed from 4 to Shepard's place at 2. In the second stretch Bacon took Filley's place at 6.
