...University squad at the Arena yesterday afternoon. The scrimmage, which was decidedly better than that of the day before, ended 2 to 1 in favor of team A. That the first team did not score more was in large measure due to the sterling defensive work of the second-string backs, Eckfeldt in particular handling his stick cleverly. Thacher scored the first goal, whipping the puck past Abbott on a quick pass from W. Morgan. Bliss evened the score for team B with a good shot from the side, and Thacher tallied the winning goal just as the scrimmage ended...
...Bartsch, who scored in two dual meets a year ago; Lewis, a good 220 man and quarter-miler; Crim, another 440 runner, and Priester. From the 1918 team, Hickman and Shelton are good sprinters. With Starr, Gubb and Lukens out again for the hurdles, and with good second-string material in Millard, Lyford and Acheson, as well as Lasser and Watt, sophomores, Cornell should be stronger than ever in these events...
...Watson '16 is placed at quarter back on the second eleven and H. H. Dadmun '17 occupies one of the guard positions on the third eleven. The only Yale player to be assigned a place is C. R. Black 1917, who takes a guard on the second string eleven...
...team. He was also a drop kicker of some ability, his field goal being the only score in the Brown-Yale game and enabling the Providence team to capture a 3-0 victory. The other backfield man to go is Saxton. Although this was his first year as first-string player, he proved a fairly reliable fullback, being especially good on the defence. The absence of Staff and Maxwell, the two guards, will leave a big hold in the centre of the line. Staff had played on the team three years, and he proved equally efficient at both guard...
Undoubtedly the greatest loss will be that of Glick at quarterback. This year there was no reliable second-string man to take his place in case of injury, and it does not look as though 1919 would produce anyone suitable for the position as a regular. Ames 1917 and Blake 1918 were the two best substitutes this season, but neither showed himself capable of consistently good judgment in tight places. If Eberstadt 1917 is able to play, the situation will be cleared considerably, as he gave promise of making a good quarter from his play in freshman and sophomore years...
