This week in Tampa, Florida, the American Federation of Labor will probably commit suicide. Unless there is a miracle the dominant craft unions will expell the ten unions forming the Committee for Industrial Organization and by this stroke will split off the militant groups which are determined to organize the bulk of the working class. Labor solidarity may go out of the window, but the labor movement is far from being knifed in the back, as President Green of the A.F. of L. claims...
...championship, scores by Mexico's best golfers and a dozen U. S. visitors were almost as high as Mexico's best golf course. The medal went to Percy J. Clifford, Mexican-born Briton, for a 75. Johnny Goodman of Omaha, onetime U. S. Open champion, was a stroke worse. A 91-which a first-class golfer would not even bother to post in a U. S. national tournament-qualified one M. While formerly each man tried to get out as far as he could, in the new stroke he only has to reach until the oar is parallel to the outermost bar of the outrigger. The legs are kept closer together with the "inside leg," that nearest the oar, drawn up between the arms. It is thus easier to make a quick, even pull-though with plenty...
...most outstanding difference that followers of Harvard rowing will notice is the elimination of the lunge at the catch which used to become pretty violent at a high stroke and cased a noticeable check. The crews are now coached to get all their body angle right after the finish and not try for any more during the rest of the recovery. There is a noticeable improvement in the smoothness and run of the varsity already...
