...latest attempt to prevent 1984 comes from within the scientific field's own ranks. Stuart Newman, a cellular biologist at the New York Medical Center in Valhalla and a founding member of the Council for Responsible Genetics, is afraid that the current technology has advanced far enough to make possible the creation of new species from human and animal DNA. He fears that such creatures would be nearly human but created for and sold into scientific slavery...

...rush to dress the stars was more frantic than ever, to the point where Escada made fabric especially to match nominee Gloria Stuart's eyes. But most celebs played it safe, which made ROBIN WILLIAMS' suit--he quipped that it came from "the Giorgio Armani Amish collection"--look all the more stylish. Since the director Stuart Baird knew this, he didn't even bother to pick up where The Fugitive left off (not that there was anywhere to go, but that's sort of the definition of sequel); he just starts over again. Sheridan's framed, Sheridan escapes, Sheridan fights back. Well, at least it's more believable that track star Snipes can elude the capture of trained professionals who always...
