...would never heal for the movies-now that The Big Parade has made so much money. There is a shell hole scene in this one, too. Somehow no one has recaptured the ferocity and the coarse laughter of the fighting as well as did The Big Parade. The war stuff in Puppets is particularly weak. The rest of the picture is about an Italian master of marionettes who leaves Manhattan to fight. His wife attempts to carry on his sideshow. None of it exacts breathless attention...
