U2 won't comment, but its label, Island Records, has asked that the songs not be aired anymore--and has refuted speculation that it engineered the stunt to create an early buzz for the album. ...line "making a list and checking it twice" evokes images of jolly St. Nick, not of belligerent Benito, I think we're justified in assuming that Peninsula's goal was not really to inspire all good men to unbind their faces. Peninsula well deserves the contempt this latest stunt has brought them, but it's hard to believe that their sophomoric hyperbole intimidated anyone...

...Shane Black mines his thriller premise while musing on issues of identity and redemption; he also shaped the itchy camaraderie of Davis and Jackson. Atoning for the flop Cutthroat Island, director Renny Harlin pumps up the genre adrenaline and puts his wife-star through her labors (including a Tarzan stunt echoing one of Jackie Chan's in Police Story). But he keeps sight of the film's disquieting subtext: that we often don't know what monsters swim inside us. And if we did, we might want to start shooting...
