Even the Constable is left with inadequate closure after being largely ignored for the last portion of the novel...

Like it or not, drinking is a mainstay of college life. Ideally, alcohol would be consumed responsibly and in moderation and alcohol poisoning, aspiration or falling off roofs in a drunken stupor (all causes of the deaths of various college students over the past several years) would never occur.
