Federico Fellini's Casanova is a fantastic puppet-show. Loosely structured on Casanova's autobiography, the film relates his amorous adventures in an anecdotal style similar to that of Fellini's earlier film, Roma. Episodes succeed each other in a vaguely chronological order, but there is no plot, no continuum of theme, no development of character or emotions. One woman is followed by another woman, and another woman, one court, another court, one spectacle, another spectacle, another spectacle. One fuck, another fuck, another fuck...
...Secretary's secret diplomacy and his secret-swinger life-style energized the Nixon years and turned them into the Kissinger era. To critics, such as a former Cabinet rival, "most of Kissinger's performance was theater and the rest was fiction." His "balance of power" approach has been attacked as reflecting a static view of the world that overemphasized superpower relationships and squandered American assets without deriving strategic benefits. In inner cities and rural slums throughout the country, a 1940s-style outbreak of polio is not inconceivable...
Hawes has bigger ideas for Mem Hall, built in the 1890s to commemorate Harvard students and alumni killed in the Civil War. Although he said the task force's recommendation to transform the building into a coffee house or an old style beer hall has merit, he would prefer to see the building converted into a campus center for the arts...
