...getting the HIV tests done, for starters. But perhaps nothing is more laborious than sorting through all those heavy bridal magazines. Just in time for spring, two newcomers have entered the crowded wedding party, Elle's Ultimate Weddings and a newly relaunched Elegant Bride. Both promise a more intelligent, stylish take on the nuptial rites than the phone book-size old faithfuls. Almost any approach seems to work, however. Even in an ad recession, the bridal mags are thriving; Conde Nast just bought one, Modern Bride, for $52 million. Below, a guide for the bedazzled bride...

...Harrods replaced Wok Wok - one of only three concessions out of an astounding 22 in-store restaurants - with Mo's, a new Harrods-run American diner targeted at trendy teens. Selfridges in the last seven months has refurbished its Food Hall and added two new restaurants - the Gallery, a stylish café overlooking the Prada, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Fendi boutiques, and the Base Bar, a hip sandwich eatery in the basement music department - to its existing 15 (three are concessions). Under Barat's direction, Selfridges even won the Royal Warrant for Food, an honor that allows the store...

Only a few years ago, cell phones were built just for talking. Then along came a company called Samsung Electronics, little known to most consumers, selling us phones that are voice activated, that surf the Internet, that play MP3 tunes. Last year Samsung rolled out stylish models that keep our calendars in color and can pinpoint our exact location. Now the South Korean company is introducing phones with always-on text messaging and wireless video that lets us play games and watch movie clips...
