...Area workers would have to seek representation in a bargaining unit that would include all University clerical and technical employees. Furthermore, the University argued that District 65's proposed bargaining unit included several groups of employees, among them research assistants, who were in fact professionals and therefore not subject to unionization...
MacArthur's troubles stem from what might be virtues in a literary biography-earnestness, caution, balance. Though the moviemakers clearly admire their subject, they are careful, for example, to dramatize his ravening egomania. A staff p.r. man is always present to arrange heroic news photos of the general, and MacArthur's own concern for image is fully laid out. One cannot complain that they have ignored those aspects of MacArthur's nature that his critics deplored. On the other hand, they have not done much with them, which is to say they have tiptoed...

In this the magazines have sometimes played a liberating role, giving space to honest facings of troubling concerns. But they all compete to exploit these concerns and curiosities. Their subject is sex, not love; their emphasis is all on experiencing and experimenting; their message is self-gratification. "I went pubic in 1967," says Guccione proudly -while Playboy was still holding back. He also started a skin magazine for women, Viva. With the air of a man who might have invented...
