...wind of this plot last summer and arrests were made back in April. So why did we hear about them on July 7, the anniversary of the London bombings? I believe the question answers itself. The story was leaked to pump up the anniversary of the London subway bombings on July 7, 2005, and remind people that if it could happen in London it could happen here. The dozens if not hundreds of law enforcement folks who worked on thwarting this embryonic plot were not part of some political scheme. But whoever chose July 7 to leak the story clearly...
...give. His right foot was mangled-bits of sneaker mixed in with clotted blood, bone, cartilage and tendon. His left leg was hanging by skin. The jagged stump of his tibia stuck out just below the knee-pretty much what you would expect from the wheel of a subway train. Even in Harlem, this was pretty...
...subway turnstiles opened when you slid a token into a very narrow slot on top. Tens of thousands of dirty New York hands pushed them in all day. The regional transportation minister, Jos? Ram?n Garc?a Ant?n said that "the machinist must have suffered some sort of unconsciousness or problem," adhering to the official line that only human factor was to blame...
...pain is still fresh in this usually bright city, and there is some hesitation to squarely blame authorities for not investing enough in basic infrastructures used primarily by working class people-like the subway-while the city spends handsomely in eye-catching projects like next year's yachting America's Cup, a state of the art cultural and science theme park, or the papal visit. "I've been driving [trains] over that section for 19 years," Trigo, the union member, told TIME, "and nothing like this had ever happened before." The regional government says, and the unions acknowledge, that...
