Last spring while the various political parties were nominating their respective candidates for the presidency, a straw vote was held here under the auspices of the political clubs to give the University a chance to name its choice for chief executive. This straw vote was a complete success. Oftentimes when such ballots are held, only a minority of the student body goes to the polls, or many regard it as a rare opportunity to cast a vote for an accommodating vendor of food stuffs. About the time this vote was held here, other institutions were also conducting straw votes with equal success. A comparison of the results of the ballots at the various universities was extremely interesting and stirred up much discussion. Again this fall several of the larger institutions have held straw votes and in many cases have shown changes in political affiliations since the previous expression of opinion.
