...When the sumptuous 110-model spectacle was over, buyers and clients rushed to the dressing room, where the shy, soft-spoken couturier was waiting with his mother Lucienne. "Formidable!" his admirers gasped. "It will change the future of fashion," declared Ohrbach's fashion consultant, Sydney Gittler, adding portentously, "What Saint Laurent is saying is 'Ladies, put a match to your closets because you've got to go out and buy something...

...Oval Office (in all of its awesome splendor), Airforce Two (Agnew), Airforce One (Agnew and Ehrlichman), and Camp David (Ehrlichman). The material spoils of power are given prominent places in both books: the authors dwell on chauffeur-driven limos, deferring butlers and maids, posh furnishings, fancy restaurants, sumptuous Government repasts (Agnew likes to show that he's a connoisseur by having Canfield comment on the quality of food and wine), and above all, alcohol. This is quite the prettiest ballet to light the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in some time and a high light of the Royal's current U.S. tour...

...respect for Hitchcock's stature, and his years, Family Plot should be considered as fleetingly as possible. It is a comedy thriller gone awry, vulgar, lifeless and maladroit. The script is by Ernest Lehman, who wrote the witty screenplay for Hitchcock's sumptuous self-parody, North by Northwest. Here the writing is less like satire than putdown. At one point, Bruce Dern, who plays a scuffling actor/cab driver named Lumley, grouses to his girl friend, a self-proclaimed medium: "You've really got me by the crystal balls...
