Youth and age were in close contact as Rubinstein and the members of the superb quartet worked through the spacious, gypsy-tinged passion of Brahms, accepting, rejecting, arguing and agreeing as four equal colleagues. Though Greene is a self-admitted "amateur" at film-making, he has produced a technically superb film in view of the adverse working conditions.
