Hollywood in 1983 will be banking heavily on sequels, everything from The Sting II and Porky's II: The Next Day to Superman III and The Revenge of the Jedi. But it will take a long time to catch up to the Japanese. While crowds are still lining up to see the newest sequel in the Tora-San film series, No. XXX to be exact, they can already start thinking about XXXI and XXXII, both of which will be out before the end of the year...

...American priest who finances the papacy with money he got from the Mafia. He also has a real steamy love affair with a French lady who is studying to be a nun. And, on top of that, this scheming monsignor is played by Christopher Reeve-that's right, Superman-so he's supposed to be a kind of nice, charming guy. Just to make sure that Superman III will have legs of steel at the box office, the film's producer has come up with a co-Caped Crusader: Richard Pryor, 41. In a part the folks at DC Comics never dreamed of, Pryor plays Gus Gorman, a computer wizard who dons tablecloth and skis for a lame demonstration of his own superpowers. Sm3 takes mild-mannered Clark Kent back to his high school reunion and a rekindled romance with Lana Lang, played by Annette O'Toole, 30, (Cat People). O'Toole may be beautiful...

In comparison, Hauer's silver-haired superman is more human than human, and finally more complex than Ford's victimized flatfoot. Because of this imbalance of star roles, and because this drastically recut movie has a plot that proceeds by fits and stops, Blade Runner is likely to disappoint moviegoers hoping for sleek thrills and derring-do. But as a display terminal...

Their loyalty is bankable. The first two installments of the Rocky saga garnered an astonishing $400 million in worldwide distribution, against their modest combined production cost of $9.1 million. Rocky III grossed a near record $16 million in its first four days. Only one film, Superman II, has ever opened better, and that was because it was shown in 458 more theaters. Playing in 939 houses across the U.S., III has set a new Hollywood record by averaging $17,056 a theater in that period. Movie moguls still scratch their beards, wondering how the Italian Stallion managed to connect with...
