...subject is obvious, but occasionally blinding: it's arguable that equally enduring genres like soap operas and crime dramas share a similar ability to tell us about ourselves, but Collins elevates cooking shows above all else. Watching What We Eat is a readable combination of sociology and wit sure to appeal to TV-food addicts, though kitchen novices might feel overwhelmed by the dense subject matter and obsessively detailed descriptions of lesser-known chefs and their programs. Still, it's a topic rich enough to reward deeper study - all the more reason to Tivo the next season of Top Chef...
...stress tests were announced last week, Citigroup seemed to have dodged a bullet. The bank, long thought to be in the worst shape among the nation's largest lenders, was said to need just $5.5 billion in capital in order to return to health. No small sum, to be sure. But amazingly, what Citi was required to raise was less than half the $13.7 billion that competitor Wells Fargo was told to come up with. Before 9 AM, though, you may be groggily walking through your House's tunnels to the dining hall to wolf down some combination of eggs, sausages, and bacon. Sure, it isn't healthy, but since you probably stayed up till 4 AM memorizing those verb forms anyway, health has become irrelevant at this point...
...work here. "If you think about how we as a species maintain body mass, you would think that nature would probably not have left the only modifiable component of energy expenditure to chance," says Frémeaux. Rather, evolution probably programs much of our willingness to be active. Sure, some people change their lives and become marathoners at age 50. But most of us don't. Our children are no different: whether they get P.E. or not, their bodies "know" how much they want to move...
