...Robert Sutton, an organizational psychologist who teaches at Stanford, introduced the rule in 2005 in the Harvard Business Review. He's hardly the first to reveal the disruptive damage wrought by workplace bullies, as shown by the depth of scholarly literature he cites. But something about Sutton's message hits a nerve. Maybe it's the epithet, which he defines helpfully as someone who persistently belittles and abuses those of inferior power or status. (As if we needed it spelled out.) Or maybe it's his argument that jerks exact a cost to the bottom line as they single-handedly...

But Parker Sutton regained his composure against the resurging Ostrow to nab the game and match with a 9-6 score. Unlike such contemporaries as Renoir, Whistler and Toulouse-Lautrec, Edgar Degas (1834--1917) has inspired few legends and has never come to seem larger than life or as colorful as his art. In Edgar Degas: Life and Work (Rizzoli; 343 pages; $70), British Critic Denys Sutton shows why such comparative obscurity would have suited his subject perfectly. Degas was a reserved, withdrawn soul who poured most of his energies into painting and drawing. There were rumors that the artist, a life-long bachelor, did not care much for women. The evidence, Sutton decides, is inconclusive. But look at the pictures...
...what's a fish eater to do? "Vote with your wallet," says Michael Sutton, who runs the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program in California. Since 1999, the aquarium has handed out pocket guides listing sustainably harvested seafood. The Marine Stewardship Council has partnered with corporations to similarly certify wild and farm-raised seafood. Some 370 products in more than two dozen countries bear the British group's "Fish Forever" label of approval. Wal-Mart and Red Lobster, among others, have made commitments to sell sustainably harvested seafood...
