Septic Sore Throat. In ten days, an epidemic of septic sore throat has killed 26 people in Lee, Mass. Of the remaining 4,000 population, more than 400 lay in fevered agony, last week, unable to swallow; their glands hard and swollen; their heads hammering with constant pain. ...except for those luckless youths who must watch the game from the Union scoreboard, is as empty as a box marked "discarded baseballs" after an assistant manager has been near. By train, boat, automobile, airplane, even a few by "ride soliciting", Harvard is making its way southward, as the swallow flies. Last night New York was filled with the men who by day walk Mount Auburn Street. This morning the gentleman from Indiana and Westmorly, arm in arm with the class baby of 1911, will measure with his eye the cool quadrangles of Princeton, and to him they will...

Unlike Camille & Sappho the comic relief wins out, Ruggiero's intentions prove a little too honorable-and the swallow flies back home. Unlike the earlier Puccini scores, the element of tragedy is missing from the soft, curving arias and duets. Unlike Monte Carlo, the whole was almost reclaimed last week in Manhattan by the altogether pleasant production at the Metropolitan-by the gay, graceful Magda of Lucrezia Bori...

...cool, intelligent way, be it Sieglinde (Walküre), Eva (Meistersinger), Brunnhilde (the Ring). There is now most important of all Soprano Gertrude Kappel who arrived recently from Munich, gave such beautiful performances of Isolde, of Brunnhilde in Walküre and Gotterdammerung as to make die-hards swallow their last struggling complaints of "no Wagnerian sopranos'' and set her down reverently as one of the Fremstad...
