McCarthy makes his best showing in small groups. At the Signer Society sitting on the arm of a chair and dressed in a comfortable looking V. necked sweater, he won over a group of alienated, slightly hostile students so that by the end of the meeting the majority of people signed up as "interested" in his campaign.
