His interpretation of Van Morrison's "Jackie Wilson Said" gave an easy swing to its companion, "Radio Sweetheart." And the way that the Beatles' "Hide Your Love Away" flowed out of "New Amsterdam" clearly displayed the desperation that inspired the Costello original.
