...homelands. The practice is so common in both Winter and Summer games that International Olympic Committee ( i.o.c.) President Jacques Rogge blasted some of them as "mercenaries" last November. Are these transnational Olympians playing by the book - or just gaming the system in their favor? i.o.c. rules say athletes cannot switch teams if they have played for their old countries in the past three years. They need approval from both their old and new nations' Olympic committees and they have to meet the new country's citizenship requirements, which vary widely. But, says David Fitzpatrick, sports director of the International...

...instinctive response to this outbreak of British euphoria is condescension. (It's fun to switch cultural roles once in a while, no?) Americans who don't love music can sniff at the band's impossible youth--two of the Arctic Monkeys are 19, two are 20--and refrigerator-poetry name. Music lovers need only glance at dusty albums by Oasis, Super Furry Animals, the Prodigy and Bloc Party to remind themselves that the Brits routinely mistake mediocrity for greatness. Here's the thing, though: this time there's no mistake. Whatever People...

...crossover with this release. Turns out all 40 needed was a little help from Lil’ Jon. The Dreadlocked One delivers the song’s thumping production as well as to co-direct the video, both of which are infectiously kinetic. Cuts syncopated with the hyperactive beat switch off images of the rappers with shots of dance moves that are impossibly fluid and at the same time fantastically chaotic. What sets the video apart is its off-beat charm. Rather than reveling in excess, the concern seems to be something closer to an accurate portrayal, or at least...

...departments, current Core courses could easily be moved into the department of the professor that teaches each course. These changes are quick and easy enough that they could be in place by next fall. The second concern is that the courses in general education should be ready before the switch to the new system of distributive requirements is made. While useful additions to the overall system, these courses will be optional and are not so central to the new general education system that they warrant holding up the implementation of the rest of the system. In the interim, the distribution...
